Description
Patriot Ordnance Factory P-415 EDGE 16.5” GP rifle (piston type):
POF-USA (Patriot Ordnance Factory) is an American manufacturer based in Arizona. Its founder, Frank DeSomma is both a passionate sports shooter and a designer of parts for the aeronautics. Initially focused on the creation of an AR-15 equipped with a piston mechanism, POF-USA now offers in its range several models with direct gas borrowing.
The P415 EDGE model is the workhorse of Patriot Ordnance Factory because it is equipped with the piston system that has made the reputation of the brand for 15 years. This one has a very short stroke (9mm) and does not include a spring which could be affected by the high temperature encountered at the level of the gas hoop. This piston system is easily removable from the front without removing the handguard. Its conveyor key is located behind the unlocking cam to limit the phenomenon of tilting of the conveyor during the impulse of the piston. The low residual tipping is fully compensated by the presence of a special butt tube which has an extension acting as a cradle supporting the rear of the carrier.
Many innovations as well as unusual features for an AR-15 have been incorporated into this weapon to improve reliability and longevity. For example, the barrel chamber has 4 grooves to reduce the stresses suffered by the extractor, but these are only present at the level of the collar, unlike the usual grooved chambers, which means that the casings which can be easily reloaded are not affected. . These grooves allow the extractor to last 5 times longer (this improvement is not new in principle but it is unique in this form on an AR-15). Although we do not recommend the use of lacquered steel cased ammunition in an AR-15 of any brand, the presence of these flutes makes the
The barrel nut, with its length of 76mm and its 20 longitudinal grooves, makes it possible to reduce the temperature at the level of the chamber.
You will find further innovations in the features below.
The control organs of this model are completely ambidextrous (see detail below).
This weapon, given its degree of equipment, does not require any modification to be used at the highest level in TSV (Shooting sports speed).
The P-415 EDGE model received the 1st prize from the readers of “The Firearm Blog” in 2019. This prize rewarded the best AR-15, from the point of view of its users, among a panel of around thirty brands.
Characteristics:
– Semi-automatic carbine type AR-15 with piston.
– Match barrel with 5 stripes, length 16.5” (41.9cm), in CrMoV 4150 steel protected from wear and corrosion by nitriding.
– 1/8” pitch barrel.
– The rifling pitch of 1 turn in 8″ makes it possible to stabilize the MK262 or any other cartridge equipped with a 77 grain projectile as well as all other conventional cartridges with a lighter projectile.
– The accuracy of the weapon is lower or equal to one minute of angle (1 MOA = 29mm at 100m), with quality ammunition (manufactured or reloaded)
– 5-position adjustable gas collar
– 3-chamber POF compensator, protected by nitriding (standard thread 1 /2″x28tpi).
– Gen 4 carcass, with ambidextrous controls, in 7075T6 aeronautical alloy machined from a block.
– Forged then machined 7075T6 aeronautical alloy receiver.
– The carcass has 2 Teflon BTR screws to eliminate any play that could exist with the receiver.
– The “lower” (the frame) is compatible with AR15 conversions whose dimensions are MilSpec.
– The “upper” (barreled action) is compatible with all AR15 receivers whose dimensions are MilSpec.
– Barrel extension and breech box feature M4 type feed ramps.
– The carrier is coated with nickel with a high phosphorus content (corrosion resistance 5 times higher than standard nickel plating) and the cylinder head is hard chrome plated.
– Conveyor key machined in the mass of the conveyor.
– Cam follower equipped with a rotating ring acting as a bearing (which greatly limits the stresses undergone by the cylinder head box at this location)
– The cam follower is hard chrome-plated, and its rotating ring is coated NP3 (nickel- teflon).
– Type III MilSpec anodizing on receiver, receiver, and handguard.
– Ultra-lightweight (*) 14.5” POF EDGE floating handguard equipped with the M-LOK system (* 20% lighter than the previous generation).
– The POF EDGE handguard, in addition to its fixing on the barrel nut and to increase the rigidity of the assembly, is secured to the receiver by an extension mounted on a dovetail and fixed by several screws (steel inserts are present on the receiver to receive these screws).
– The handguard is equipped with 4 anchors for the ball strap attachment system (2 on each side).
– 76mm long POF barrel nut acts as a radiator to dissipate heat from the chamber (17 times more efficient than the original military barrel nut).
– MFT ”Minimalist” telescopic stock (Mission First Tactical) with an ambidextrous anchorage for ball sling attachment system.
– POF stock tube designed to prevent carrier tilting (present on all models, but especially useful for piston models to prevent premature wear of the stock tube).
– Completely ambidextrous breech stopper (both for the action of releasing the breech and for locking it back manually).
– Ambidextrous safety and magazine pusher.
– Non-adjustable Match POF direct trigger (tared at approximately 2Kg).
– Hammer, trigger, and separator in A2 tool steel machined by electro-erosion, then protected from wear and corrosion by double nitriding.
– Stainless steel hammer pins and KNS trigger (these pins cannot accidentally come out of their housings or turn on themselves).
– Mission First Tactical pistol grip.
– Widened trigger guard, machined in the mass of the carcass.
– Weight: 3180 grams.
– Length: 86.36cm (stock retracted)
– Delivered in a case with a 30-round magazine.
– Delivered without sights.
– Caliber: 223 Rem. (5.56×45)
– Chambering: 5.56×45 NATO (Match chamber).
– Made in USA (for all component parts)
– Weapon classified in category B4.
